The pictures are similar, but were actually taken from two different positions, approximating the spacing of your left and right eyes. In other words, the picture on the left is what your left eye would see and ditto for your right eye. Special viewing equipment helps, but is not at all necessary to see the composite 3D image. We guarantee that once you get the hang of it, you'll understand how really very simple it is to see the 3D image. Here's a simple method: With your left eye closed, position your right hand so you can see the full right image with your right eye, but block the left image totally. Hold that. Now, with your right eye closed, position your left hand so that your left eye can only see the left image. Double check each eye separately a couple of times to make sure that they can only see their respective images. Now the tricky part. Open both eyes and focus. Try crossing your eyes until you see two images and then relaxing and watch the two images overlap. Once they are on top of each other, you have it. You just have to practice.
