Description: This Vietnam war in-country embroidered patch measures approximately 2.5" by 3.5". During Vietnam war, RT MOCCASIN was a predominantly US 5th Special Forces Group Recon Team utilized to perform Missions under the Command & Control structure. (This unit used only additional Indigenous personnel as required on a mission by mission basis). RT Moccasin was a forward element of the huge Operation LAM SON 719. Dropping behind the Ho Chi Minh Trail in Laos RT Moccasin prior to the main thrust by allied forces on the 8th February 1971, the unit was joined by the ARVN Tiger Force Rangers in a bid to provide a diversion for the main body. By the 7th of February, having already been in the field for seven days, RT Moccasin continued to harass the Ho Chi Minh Trail and conducted their combat within the VC lines. On the 10th day of their mission, RT Moccasin was heli-lifted from Highway 9 inside Laos. RT Moccasin spent the remainder of 1971 conducting Recon activities within a 50 kilometer radius of the DMZ, in South Vietnam, North Vietnam and Laos.
