Description: This DOPS real photo postcard (RPPC) shows "U.S.A.T. Leonard Wood". This ship was built by Bethlehem Shipbuilding Corporation and was launched in 1921 named "Nutmeg State," but by 1922 had been sold and renamed "Western World," converted into a passenger ship and serving for years on Munson Steamship Line's South America service. In 1939 the War Department bought the ship, converted it into a transport, and renamed it U.S.A.T. Leonard Wood. In 1941 it was transferred to the U.S. Navy. DOPS real photo postcards were made between 1925 and 1942. After the years the postcard may show some typical wear, including upper-right and lower-right corner creases. Most visible wear is probably on the backside of the card.
