A student of Utagawa Kuniyoshi. He is the painter who inherited Kuniyoshi's talent for painting warriors the most. Inheriting the style of his master Kuniyoshi, Yoshitsuya's samurai paintings are so powerful that at times they almost surpass Kuniyoshi's work. He continued to paint until his death at the age of 45.
