TAGLINES: "Throughout eternity, no man has ever provoked such terrible fear, and such haunting desire" "The story of the greatest lover who ever lived, died, and lived again" - In 1913, the charming, seductive and sinister vampire Count Dracula travels to England in search of an immortal bride. When a ship is wrecked off Whitby, the only survivor, Count Dracula, is discovered lying on the beach by the sickly young Mina Van Helsing, who is visiting her dear friend Lucy Seward. Lucy, her fiancé Jonathan Harker (a solicitor), and her father Dr. Jack Seward (who manages the local asylum) attempt to make the Count feel welcome to England. The Count quickly takes the life of Mina, and proceeds to romance Lucy, with the intention of making her his greatest bride. Soon after the death of Mina, the Sewards call her father Dr. Abraham Van Helsing to come to their home. As Lucy falls deeper under the spell of the Count, Dr. Van Helsing almost immediately comes to understand that his daughter fell prey to a vampire and discovers the culprit to be none other than the Count himself. Dr. Van Helsing, Dr. Seward, and Harker work together to foil the Count's plans to take Lucy away to his native Transylvania. CAST includes Frank Langella, Kate Nelligan, Laurence Olivier, Donald Pleasence, Trevor Eve, Jan Francis, Tony Haygarth, Janene Duvitski, Teddy Turner, Kristine Howarth, Sylvester McCoy, Joe Belcher, Frank Birch, Gabor Vernon. BEHIND THE SCENES TRIVIA : Frank Langella also played the title character of Dracula on stage during the Broadway revival, and was nominated for a Tony Award for his performance. Langella once said of his interpretation of Dracula, "I don't play him as a hair-raising ghoul. He is a nobleman, an elegant man with a very difficult problem, a man with a unique and distinctive social problem. He has to have blood to live, and he is immortal." Frank Langella suffers from an eye condition called nystagmus, which causes one's eyes to move involuntarily. The producers were aware that this might detract from the menace he was able to portray in the role, but cast him anyway, as they trusted in his overall screen presence to make the role work. In many scenes, his eyes are seen to be moving erratically, while in other scenes, he can be observed to be keeping them still, either through force of will, or by focusing on objects in the distance. A library of 20,000 to 30,000 video items from 1978 forward, including multiples, is being offered for the first time to the eBay community.
