Description: ***********The Valjoux 72 manual wind movement keeps accurate time over an approximate 45 hour power reserve period with all chronograph functions working perfectly as they should. As clearly seen in the pictures the case back gasket has deteriorated. Given this and considering the movement likely hasn't been serviced in several decades a complete overhaul is long overdue and recommended.*********** This seldom seen vintage 1969 Longines Diver Chronograph Regatta Ref. 8224-4 has a matte black "T-SWISS MADE-T" signed dial that is in pristine condition. Any imperfections seen are on the crystal, not the dial. The original lume, which remains fully intact and emits a quick burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged gracefully. The massive all stainless steel case shows honest wear with no visible signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped "STAINLESS STEEL" and "15634645." The inside of the case back is stamped "LONGINES" followed by "FAB. SUISSE,""SWISS MADE,""ACIER,""INOXYDABLE,""8224-4,""DDE. BREV. +,""7933/66,""11685/66,""4678/67" and "10-69." The crystal is nearly blemish free. The unadjusted 17 jewels Swiss "LONGINES WATCH Co" stamped Valjoux 72 manual wind movement is clean and keeps accurate time with all chronograph functions working perfectly as they should. The top pusher starts and stops the sweep seconds hand with the bottom pusher resetting the sweep seconds hand and the minute and hour register hands back to precisely 0. The pushers have a pleasant catch and release feel. The Longines stamped crown on the left side of the mid-case controls the inner bezel, which rotates bidirectionally. The non-screwdown Longines signed crown on the left side of the mid-case turns with an appropriate amount of tension when setting the time and winds buttery smooth. After winding the crown 46 full revolutions the movement ran for approximately 45 hours with the chronograph functions engaged. As clearly seen in the pictures the case back gasket has deteriorated. Given this and considering the movement likely hasn't been serviced in several decades (there is one visible watchmaker service marking on the inside of the case back) a complete overhaul is long overdue and recommended. This watch measures approximately 43 mm excluding the crown, approximately 45.5 mm including the crown and approximately 22 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the fixed bezel, is approximately 11.5 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 12.5 mm. While I "believe" the beads of rice bracelet is original the clasp is not signed Longines, rather it's stamped "KESTENMADE BAMBI,""STAINLESS STEEL" and "MADE IN JAPAN" with nothing stamped on the outside of the buckle. This bracelet shows moderate wear and stretch. Set on the loosest clasp setting it fits my approximate 6.5 inch wrist perfectly. It likely won't accommodate wrists larger than 6.5 inches in size.Given the deteriorated case back gasket and considering the movement likely hasn't been serviced in several decades a complete overhaul is long overdue and recommended. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time.
