Description: Vintage 1972 Sears C1 The Liquid Crystal Electronic Calculator - First LCD! RARE!!! Sears, Roebuck, and Co. was 1 of 3 companies to FIRST produce a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) calculator. C1 The Liquid Crystal Electronic Display Calculator was introduced in 1972. This calculator uses Dynamic Scattering Mode (DSM), the very first type of LCD technology. The C1 saw itself in print for the first time on January 15, 1972, in the Sears Catalog. A year later, in 1973, the C1 was featured in The Boston Globe, its first outside print ad. Sources for Reference: vintagecalculator.com *The C1 is also featured on the website for the National Museum of American History. ******* The C1 Calculator pictured is the actual calculator being sold. Overall - great, pre-owned, vintage condition and fully functional. The original box and shipping foam remain. However, the box does display some distress consistent with being 50 years old. The unit powers up as it should with the original power cord. The LCD is visible as is the overhead light provided for additional screen visibility. The calculator functions 100% as it should. The numbers and symbols are completely visible, and there is no sticking or delay in the function of the keys.
