Description: Browser Books has been a Fillmore Street mainstay since 1976. Owner Stephen Damon, who is also an ordained priest, started out as assistant manager there in 1978. The vibe is akin to a comfortable home library, with low lighting, a smattering of art, and colorful area rugs underfoot. The spot is known for its fiction and literature sections. In addition, they have a robust assortment of books on religion, philosophy, and poetry. In 2018, Damon was diagnosed with a neurodegenerative disease and the bookstore faltered financially. Luckily, the community rose up around him, raising $75,000 in a Go Fund Me campaign to save (and renovate) their beloved neighborhood bookstore. In October 2019, he turned over ownership of the store to Green Apple Books. The new co-owner, Pete Mulvihill, promised the Browser name and staff will stay the same and he will make gradual improvements to the store. This vintage bookmark measures 6 1/2 by 2 1/4 inches. It has slight creasing near the top and bottom edges. It comes from a smoke and fragrance-free home. It will be well packaged to ensure it arrives safely.
