Offered for your consideration, a rare opportunity to own a piece of Texas History, a deluxe basketweave and border tooled heavy leather loop holster for the Colt SAA and similar clones like Uberti. The Schoellkopf story started in 1869, when Gottlieb Heinrich Schoellkopf was sent to Texas to transport buffalo hides back to Buffalo, New York. German-born Gottlieb had joined his uncle’s tanning business in the East several years before. Gottlieb decided to stay in Dallas and established the G.H. Schoellkopf Company, which became a long time prominent saddlery in Texas. They published their first saddlery and gun leather catalog in 1887 and used the "White Elephant" Brand until around 1902, after which they used the Famous "Jumbo" Brand. When the horse lost out to the automobile in the early 1900s, the firm diversified but continued to make saddles and gun leather until the 1950's. Gottlieb’s two sons, J. Fred and Hugo, continued the family business.Buddy Schoellkopf (b.1921 d.1999), Hugo’s son, married Caroline Hunt (daughter of oilman H.L. Hunt), sister to Lamar Hunt, AFL & Kansas City Chiefs founder. Buddy worked in the family business but a business dispute sent Buddy off on his own, marketing sporting equipment and leather goods under "Buddy Schoellkopf Products" and the "Black Sheep" brand, and he may have truly considered himself to be the "black sheep" of the Schoellkopf family. The convenient snap-off design features brown enamel snaps on the safety strap and loop as shown. Holster will accommodate up to a 3 1/2" belt. Neutral cant for any position carry. High quality holster is in excellent lightly used condition, it is unmodified from original, all stitching is tight and should provide years of dependable use.
