Description: Vintage Chelsea Ships Clock, a renowned maker of maritime clocks. 5 1/2" with cover, and 4 1/2" dial (see photos). Brass case serial # 118849 dates to 1915-1919. Movement serial number is different (52588) and dates to 1905-1909. Perfect example of a WWI era clock. According to Chelsea, the hands are not original, and I suspect the dial is not original. Cover glass is cracked. Key included. Not currently working. Should be a good candidate for restoration. Addendum: I found this 1980 handwritten note from Chelsea. I requested key (pointer) to regulate the clock. The note stated that the clock was manufactured in 1918 and sold to Navy Observatory. Of course, i only gave them the serial # on the case. Still not sure if movement is original.
