Picked this up at an estate sale of an avid collector of automobilia and vintage aircraft memorabiliaThis is a vintage wooden crate that originally would have held 2 five gallon cans of fuel (Pressure Appliance Fuel according to the labeling)Crate is labeled on each end.....graphics are good considering the age and use of an item of this naturePlenty of signs of wear....scuffs, scrapes, dings, dents, stains......all of which I would expect on an original piece like thisAt some point a "red X" was lightly sprayed painted on each end of crate (see pics)On one end there is what appears to be a date printed in yellow....12 - 21 - 62.....1962....which would fit with the graphics, etc.Crate is fully intact...no loose boards or sections measures 21.25" long, 10.5" wide, and 15" tall(I have 2 of these crates....this one, one that is labeled for White Gas)(see my OTHER AUCTIONS for the other crate)As far as attempting to date this crate......well.....the Standard Oil Company of California (SOCAL) was formed in 1926 and was the parent company ofwhat would later become CHEVRON.
