Description: THE UPRIGHT STAND ISN'T INCLUDED IN THE PURCHASE. ONLY THE ONE IT SITS ON TOP OF. This is a vintage Chinese etched/engraved brass bowl made between 1930-1950's. It measures 14.25" across, and 5" high sitting on the stand. It has engraved geometrical diamond pattern with animals of good fortune around the outside edge. In Chinese culture, elephants symbolize strength, wisdom, and intelligence. They are also associated with good fortune and luck. The deer symbolizes longevity, wealth, and good fortune. Also deer are known for their grace, endurance, and long life, making them a popular symbol of longevity in Feng Shui. Flamingos are a symbol of prosperity, good luck, enthusiasm, and happiness in Chinese culture. In general, birds in Chinese culture are thought to connect the Earth and Heaven, and to bring messages from Heaven to Earth. The engraved mark on the bottom is believed to be a typical marking on metal vessel made in the early 20th century. I'm not certain, but I believe it is the apocryphal Chinese reign mark, normally a Ming Dynasty Chenghua mark. It is encircled by the Chinese meander pattern, which is very similar to Greek key.
