Description: Thank you for viewing my listing. Please read ALL the listing and view the pictures and video carefully as condition is subjective , and pictures speak many words. Straight back to the 1970s with this retro toy. Vintage Mettoy/Playcraft Computacar , the Chevrolet Astrovette ,that has been serviced with new parts to make a fully functioning car. The battery compartment is clean and free from the often seen corrosion. The work carried out includes the plastic motor pinion , which is almost certainly found to be split , being replaced with a brass pinion. The card feed roller has been renewed. As you can see from the video , the car works as intended , feeding the card into the rear of the car to start the program. The car then will travel in any direction , left or right , forward or backwards depending on the cut outs in the one of the supplied program cards. The idea is that with the help of the supplied instruction booklet , you lay out the 6 cones and with the correct card entered into the car , it will manoeuvre around the cones. I haven't the free floor area to show you it working on the floor. You can make extra cards to your own design quite simply out of cardboard sheet. This lovely car has an actual reverse gear. When the program card selects reverse , it does not reverse the electric motor , but just like a real car it selects a reverse gear. The car has forward , neutral and reverse gears. That being said , as this technology , hard as it is to believe to a 61 year old like me , who had one of these back in the day , this technology is over 50 years old , and is not as robust and reliable as modern toys , much like all technology from the 1970s. Needs handling carefully and sympathetically , and it should last another 50 years. The set is complete with the 6 cones, instruction booklet and program cards. The box is complete , and it has protected this lovely toy for over 50 years. The car is made in Hong Kong for the British toy company Mettoy , under license from Hasbro , USA. Requires 2 AA batteries , which are not supplied. Not really a child's toy any more , but a collectable vintage toy. I do not use 'library' pictures. The item in the pictures is the item you will receive. I will post worldwide but please be aware it has become rather expensive , and please wait for an invoice before paying if buying from overseas, as I cannot refund the possible excess postage if you pay before receiving an invoice. I fit ebay , the best I can , around my working life and family commitments. I will , in the vast majority of cases, post within 5 working days of payment. If you would like the item quicker , please message me , and I will endeavour to post quicker. In most cases , I use the cheapest insured service that Royal Mail offers , as I believe they offer the best balance of quality of service and cost. If you require any more pictures or indeed any more information , please do not hesitate to contact me either through ebay or by phoning 01925 753047 or 07510 296953 and asking for Mike. I would rather you ask questions before bidding , no matter how small the matter , so you are quite happy with what you are bidding on. It is better to resolve any possible differences in opinion about the condition of the item before bidding / buying / posting. I live 5 to 10 minutes from junction 20 of the M6 , and 'pick up' is welcome. 20241130 152811 Video will open in a new window Using the eBay App? Paste link into a browser window: [isdntekvideo]
