Description: Chinese Stock CertificateThis is a beautifully framed 1920's-1930's Shanghai Electric Construction Company Limited stock certificate. This piece is in perfect condition and has been framed to show the main bond and a sample of the uncanceled coupons below. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this is considered either unissued or uncirculated due to not having the dates filled in. The company dates to the early part of the century, but would have been raising larger sums in the 20's and 30's before shuttering the following decade. I've included an image of what I believe the back of the stock to look like, and some images that show in the right light, you can see the reverse is fully printed as well. Naturally I didn't want to take apart the framing which is perfectly done and has a neat piece of appropriate hardware on the back. Initially, the company focused on introducing trams to the city, with the first tram line officially launching in 1908, connecting major locations like the Bund and Jing'an Temple. By the 1930s, the company had expanded significantly, operating multiple tram lines throughout Shanghai and becoming a major provider of public transportation. In addition to trams, the company also introduced trolleybuses, which offered greater flexibility than trams because they could move around traffic more easily and were cheaper to operate. By 1937, Shanghai had 10 tram lines, and the trolleybus network continued to expand until the war with Japan disrupted operations. After the war, tram routes were gradually replaced by trolleybuses, which were seen as more modern and efficient The company's contributions weren't limited to public transport; it also supplied electricity to Shanghai, helping to power the city’s growth as a major economic hub during this period By the 1940s, the company, like many other businesses, faced challenges due to the war and later political changes in China. Nevertheless, its legacy as a key player in shaping Shanghai's urban development and public transport is well remembered. sources: Global Times, Searchworks, and Wikipedia FulfillmentThank you for viewing and please let me know if you have any questions!
