The La Crosse, Wisconsin Chapter was the very first in America and is now known as the 700 Bowling Club of America Chapter # 1. Purchased in May 13, 1969 by father and son team Les & Jim Bares, Les & Jim's Lincoln Lanes has grown from a small bowling alley to one of Merrill's landmarks. Expansions include the addition of a large banquet hall in 1974 and the bar was expanded in 1984. Automatic scoring, new seating, and synthetic lanes were added in 1998 and the bar was renovated in 2011. Les retired in 1985 an now the third generation has taken over as Jim retired after 42 years on May 13, 2011. Jim's son Mark Bares and son-in-law Jim Arndt are carrying on the family tradition.
