Description: From a Tucson, Arizona collector's estate: Vintage Hopi Indian flat cradle Kachina doll. Cradle dolls are called "tihu" in Hopi. Cradle dolls are given to babies during their second year at the time of the dances. This Tihu represents Water Gourd Lady, or “Smiling Grandmother, the Mother of all Katchinas (Hahai’i Wuhti)" who waters the crops and brings nourishment to all beings". The doll is hand carved from a piece of cottonwood root, as is traditional. This doll is in good condition; it has the wear and patina of being often handled over the years. It measures 6 inches high. The doll has some dirt or soiling from handling. A unique and meaningful gift for a baby or newborn!! Please examine all the photos and ask any questions before bidding.
