Description: This vintage Florentine gilded box features a decoupaged partial image of Giovanni Toscani’s (1370 – 1440) “Processione dei Palii di San Giovanni,” or procession of the poles or banners for the feast of St. John the Baptist. The image features the central portion of Toscani’s tempera painting on wood, the original of which is an embellishment on a wooden chest which resides in Florence’s Museo Nazionale del Bargello.
