Description: Japanese kutani-style hand-painted sleeping cat or nemuri-neko. This porcelain figurine depicts a slumbering cat – the white porcelain body is heavily gilded. The cat dons a red and gold coloured ribbon accented with gold and also with shiny, bright gold decorative bells at each end. I believe the piece is signed, but cannot guarantee it. I bought it with a matching Lucky cat that was signed and also said "Hand- Painted" on the underside. This piece has the protector on the bottom so it is impossible to see the signature. I do believe it to be as old as the 1930's from all research I have done, maybe even older. The piece is in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks, repairs or nicks. The gilding is intact - artfully and beautifully executed. The shape of the body is in nice proportion and the facial expression lovely. Measurements: 5.5 inches long by 4 inches at it's widest and 2 inches high.
