Interior appears to be true lacquerware, a solid black, can't verifyThis piece is older, there is a bit of loss of finish on the knob on the lid, there are also some cracks to the black finish on the interior of the lid. A few minor chips are on the edge where the lid sitsAlso one small hairline crack that descends down 3/8" from the upper edge, very hard to see and doesn't compromise the integrity of the box.
