Vintage Junghans Mechanical Stopwatch, with Outer Case, circa 1940s

Description: Offered for sale is a rare Junghans stopwatch, dating to the second world war. It is offered with its original DRGM outer case. This is the type of watch used by the German Navy. However, there are no military markings on this example. At the time of listing, I can find only one other example of this stopwatch. That other example does bear markings for the German navy and is listed at over ?800. To the example we have here: Case: measures approximately 49mm without the crown and 62mm with. The case is blued. When we first saw this watch, there were areas of heavy corrosion. The outside of the case has been cleaned and reblued. There was no corrosion inside the case and this is all original. The crown and bow are brass and not blued. There is minor pitting to the outer case and both the inner and outer case shows minor scratches. There are no dents. All told, we have an original case in good condition with minor restoration Dial: original and in good condition. There are no cracks or damage. The subdial at the 12 o clock counts to 30 minutes and is marked in 3 minute increments. The dial is clearly signed at the 6 o clock position. The outer track and markers are all clearly legible. There is minor wear to the print in a number of areas. Movement: original and correct. The movement has been fully serviced and tracks well. Hands: both are original to the watch. The tail on the sweep hand has been broken off at some point in the past. Operation: the stopwatch works as it should with a perfect reset. Overall: a fully original example of a rare stopwatch. It wears its history well. It has been fully serviced and sympathetically conserved.
