Description: Vintage J.W. Beardsley’s Sons NYC Glass Bottle w/ Original Cap Circa 1910 J.W. Beardsley started his smoked meats and provisions business in New York City in the 1860s, and by the 1890s the company had been rechristened J.W. Beardsley’s Sons. George and Samuel Beardsley sold Acme brand sliced beef, Star brand herring and Climax peanut butter, first from a plant on West Street, and then from Newark, NJ. But by the early 1900s, the company’s shredded codfish was its biggest product. This does not look like one of the round cylindrical bottles the Beardsleys used to pack their fish and meat. More likely it was for a condiment or delicacy. Beardsley dried beef was still being sold as recently as 2013. The bottle is in good, clear condition. It is approximately 3 inches tall. The cap still has some writing legible on in, including: “TURN” with an arrow; The date “6/06” which Beardsley referenced on other products in regard to the passage of the Food and Drug Act; and a barely legible “DO NOT EAT IF SEAL IS BROKEN.”
