Description: This gorgeous 100 % pure white silk on cotton folk art fabric was created by a Northern Lao Ethnic woman artist. This stunning white colored Handwoven, loomed and embroidered silk on cotton Textile is Vintage. Woven during the mid 1980's, the piece is in excellent condition, was purchased new and unused then immediately stored properly for all these years. It has not been on display or exposed to light. The Northern Ethnic hilltribes of Lao loom/weave traditional fabrics in designs and motifs and using intricate embroidery work they tell a history of family, village and culture. Their use of supplementary weft weaving is considered by collectors and connoisseurs to be amongst the finest of textiles. The colors are created using natural and organic dyes. They are truly art pieces. Use as wall hanging , table top runner or scarf. The complex patterns, geometric designs, intricate embroidery and weft weave defines each piece as individualistic. This piece of art work material is truly wonderful. My old eyes can hardly believe how a Lao woman, sitting at a simple loom, on or under a bamboo stilt house , no electricity , could have produced such a splendid piece of cloth. To keep intricate embroidered geometric patterns both in their mind and at their fingertips is amazing. The patterns repeated seen both detailed and flawless, all while using fine white silk thread. This piece has no tears, no color runs, no holes or loose threads. One end, a quarter inch in, shows 8 small tack holes, ( it was hanging in a market stall when we purchased it. ) There is often a few minor thread flares on these embroidered hilltribe pieces. From my private collection. I lived in Northern Lao late 1980's. I fell in love with the people, culture and fabric. While viewing hundreds of beautiful pieces I purchased a few dozen of the absolute finest. Please review all pictures carefully. Although this piece is superb the overall condition of the piece must be considered by buyers as imperfect. Colors may differ slightly upon viewing in person due to camera or other screen contrast. The beautiful shine/sheen of silk is more radiant in person . Both ends have 5 inch long tassels not included in the description of this 60 inch fabric.
