Description: This fabulous folk art fabric was created by a Northern Lao Ethnic woman artist. This richly colored Handwoven, loomed and embroidered silk on cotton Textile is Vintage. Woven during the mid 1980's , the piece is in excellent condition, was purchased new and unused then immediately stored properly for all these years. It has not been on display or exposed to light. The Northern Ethnic hilltribes of Lao loom/weave traditional fabrics in designs and motifs and using intricate embroidery work they tell a history of family, village and culture. They are then often used as a hanging panel or ceremonial cloth. Their use of supplementary weft weaving is considered by collectors and connoisseurs to be amongst the finest of textiles. The colors are created using natural and organic dyes. They are truly art pieces. Use as wall hangings or table top runners . Their complex patterns , geometric designs, intricate embroidery, weft weave and superb use of colors defines each piece as individualistic. This stunning piece of fabric art has 4 large golden dragons, the great protectors. It has many colors of silk and cotton threads , blues, gold,reds,yellows, browns. Numerous motifs. Superbly created by an experienced professional, this piece seems flawless, no thread loss, holes, tears or color runs. Likely this piece was produced on or under a bamboo stilt house in a tiny , remote hilltop village, using a simple standing or back-stop loom, no electricity. The " patterns " only in their minds. Although this piece is superb the overall condition of the piece must be considered by buyers as imperfect. For sale from my private collection. I lived in Northern Lao late 1980's. I fell in love with the people, culture and fabric. While viewing hundreds of beautiful pieces I purchased a few dozen of the absolute finest. Please review all pictures carefully. Colors may differ slightly upon viewing in person due to camera or other screen contrast. The beautiful shine/sheen of silk is more radiant in person. The workmanship and color contrast on this piece is wonderful. Both ends have a hand stitched hem, one wide enough for a hanging Rod.
