I was told the painting depictsan Avro Lancaster B.1 (FE) in the markings of 207 Squadron, Royal Air Force. Its white fuselage and black underside was the color scheme used by Tiger Force, formed from RAF units with the intention of carrying out missions against Japan from the island of Okinawa. The white finish was meant to reflect sunlight and keep the inside of the aircraft cool. The FE (‘Far East’) version also had larger fuel tanks, modified engines and revised navigation, radio and radar equipment. Before the aircraft could be deployed to the Pacific, the US had ended the war by dropping the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Tiger Force was stood down before being disbanded in October 1945.
