Photos of internationally famous Lake Como in northern Italy certainly resemble this scene. The uncommonly beautiful work, 26" by 32" (34" by 39" in much later, mid century frame), is painted in blues, greens, and whites. The impressionistic handling suggests a very talented artist, yet, I am unable to locate a painter of this name. The painting has age, the canvas nailed to the stretcher. Had I to guess I would think mid 1930's to mid 1950's would be a likely age range. Over the years the work has seen some abuse, as several punctures are present, one at upper left center unrepaired, and another at lower left center poorly repaired, and there is one other small patched area at extreme right edge. Further research might help to determine the identity of this artist; I wonder if the signature might be a pen name. Well worthy of investing in a professional repair job.
