Description: Vintage Northwood/L. G. Wright Opal Blue Beaded Footed Compote Bowl.Clear blue glass with milky opalescent around the edge. Double crimped ruffled edge. Beaded lines on underside of bowl. Beaded pedestal foot. Made with four-part mold.The dating and history of this piece is somewhat convoluted. See below. The L. G. Wright Glass Company owned the molds and exclusively marketed their pressed glass products. However, they contracted the manufacturing to other regional glass companies. This particular glass piece could have been manufactured by Fenton, Viking, Westmoreland, Fostoria, Summit, or any one of several others. Due to the similarity of the crimping style and opalescent color, it was likely Fenton.The original mold for this piece was made by Northwood Glass sometime between 1895 and 1925. Northwood closed in 1925 and LG Wright Glass acquired some of Northwoods molds sometime after 1937. L G Wright produced these beaded footed compote bowls (manufactured by others) during the 1940s and 1950s, possibly into the 1960s, from the original Northwood mold. The milky opalescent rim of the bowl shows the "ring of fire", a reddish iridescent hue, when held up to natural light (see photo #8), which indicates it was made before about 1960. The last photo shows a copy of a page from the L G Wright catalog from the mid-1900s with this piece identified as 3-2 - Beaded Footed Compote Small, and that it came in the Blue/Opal color.Excellent condition. No chips, cracks, scratches, or repairs.Measures about 5" tall and about 6" diameter. The foot is about 3 1/4 inch diameter.
