Description: Full disclosure: I worked for Schwinn in Chicago from 1979 to 1984 and I had a number of Chicago Paramounts and one Waterford through the years (pre and during employment there) so this one didn’t come off of one of my old frames because it’s unscratched. I had 1973, 1976, 1979 and 1984 Paramounts both road and track for what little it’s worth. You can see from the photos this has the four digit date code of 2390 which I am translating as the 239th day of 1980. The internet tells me that day #239 in 1980 was Tuesday August 26. The UAW strike in Chicago wasn’t until sometime in late 1980 so this date code is from a very late Chicago factory Paramount and I feel pretty good about my date code guess. Have not tried any cleaning because it doesn’t need it. It remains in excellent, original condition and these, in this shape, are soon no longer going to exist. Would love to know how Schwinn (surely a subcontractor) had these made. Screenprinted after stamping? Pad printed? Why is Waterford gone? Richard or Marc might know the answer to this. The badge is not attracted by a magnet but I don't know if it's stainless or perhaps plated brass. Probably brass due to the weight but really not 100% sure. It would make a good replacement for a Paramount getting a recondition/new paint job. Cannot help you with the tiny screws but someone on eBay can. Finally, I will carefully tape this badge to a wood dowel and put it in a padded envelope so that it doesn’t get flattened in shipping (we hope). Also, please note that shipping is included.
