Description: ***********The 5022A manual wind movement runs about 2 minutes slow by the end of its approximate 43 hour power reserve period. Given its unknown service history a complete overhaul is likely long overdue and recommended.*********** This Sears Roebuck Stellaris, which came from the estate of its original owner, has a pristine "JAPAN" signed dial and the gracefully aged lume emits a quick burst glow after being exposed to bright light. The black bezel, which shows considerable wear and rotates bidirectionally with an appropriate amount of tension, presents nicely. The chrome-plated case shows significant wear and signs of brassing/oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped "STAINLESS STEEL BACK BASE METAL BEZEL WATERRESISTANT" with "A7" stamped in the center. The inside of the case back is stamped "SEARS, ROEBUCK AND CO." followed by "JAPAN." The crystal needs to be replaced. The 17 jewels unadjusted Japan "SEARS, ROEBUCK AND CO." stamped 5022A manual wind movement with quickset date function runs strong, albeit slow, and the date wheel rolls over at 12 am. The quickset date function works flawlessly by pulling the crown out to the first position and then turning it clockwise to advance the date and counterclockwise to reverse it. After recently winding the brassed, worn and non-screwdown crown 49 full revolutions the movement lost about 2 minutes by the end of its approximate 43 hour power reserve period. The crown winds buttery smooth. Given the movement's unknown service history a complete overhaul is likely long overdue and recommended. This watch measures approximately 37 mm excluding the crown, approximately 39.5 mm including the crown and approximately 18 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 9.5 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 10.5 mm. A complete overhaul is recommended. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time.
