Description: I have been asked to sell a large collection of vintage fish decoys with many outstanding decoys, so look for more I will be selling over the coming weeks and months. This silver and white vintage working fish decoy appears to be in the shape and coloration of a crappie or bass. The decoy is 8.75-inches in length and weighs 8 ounces. The provenance available is that this decoy was made in Minnesota in the 1980's, but the identity of the fisherman/folk art carver is unknown. Possibly the interested design or dots around they eye and similar dots on the fins may be a characteristic that help identify the maker. The decoy has been in the collection since 2004. The fish decoy is thick-bodied, with a squared-off carved wood tail, metal fins, a pigtail line tie, the painted eyes, and three circular drilled cavities filled with lead. The decoy is painted white with splotches of silver and shows chipping and other signs of age. This beautiful working fish decoy is a fine example of late-20th Century utilitarian folk art.
