Description: Vintage tourist brochures for Spain from the 1980’s, in the first flush of freedom after the death of Franco in the 1970’s, when Spain became a parliamentary democracy with a rapidly expanding tourist industry, especially popular with sun-starved Northern Europeans. Includes a colorful vintage 20-page large (9 x 8.5) tourist brochure for Sevilla (or Seville in English), the capital and largest city (population: 685,000 city, 1,820,000 metro area) in the Andalusia region of southern Spain (from the Ministerio de Transportes, Turismo y Comunicaciones, 1982); a wonderful, similar-sized vintage tourist brochure for Segovia, an ancient, historic town of 50,000 on the plains of Old Castile, near Madrid, a UNESCO World Heritage Site noted for its Roman aqueduct, its Gothic cathedral and its medieval castle (the model for Walt Disney’s Cinderella castle) (from the Ministerio de Transportes, Turismo y Comunicaciones, 1984); and a similar colorful square tourist brochure for Spain’s Costa Blanca, meaning “White Coast” in English. It is a 120-mile stretch of sunny Mediterranean coastline in Alicante province, with seaside resort towns, such as Benidorm and Calpe, that are very popular with British and German tourists (from the Ministerio de Transportes, Turismo y Comunicaciones, circa 1980).
