The lotus is the symbol of purity. The one in his raised hand is a gesture of reassurance. literally meaning have no fear. Notice the beautifully rendered drapery of the Buddha's robes and the delicate carving of his face with eyes closed striking a peaceful and calm pose. The color of the soapstone moves from a light green of the lotus blossom on which The Buddha stands to a light brownish color with subtle gradations of color throughout the figure. The Buddha measures 12.25" H x 3" W x 3" D. The figure is most likely of Chinese origin. Good vintage condition with a slight flea bite to the top to the halo. See photo.
