Description: Vintage Braided Porcelain Fruit Console Bowls Large Handmade in Transylvania (2) These are at least 22 years old but were never used. Please see the provenance explanation below.Two bowls included. They are very decorative but also great for serving fruit, cookies, or snacks.- 1 footed bowl measuring approximately 8.5" Diameter x 3.5" high and weighing approximately 1lb 3.8oz.- 1 bowl measuring approximately 8.25" Diameter x 2.25" high and weighing approximately 14.5oz.These bowls are completely hand made, including the intricate weaving of porcelain strings in lattice-like, lacey patterns - for that reason, expect that no 2 bowls will be completely alike (including measurements and weight) and also expect irregularities or inconsistencies in execution. These types of bowls used to be present in every household and were viewed as utilitarian items, albeit pretty looking ones - used to serve fruit, snacks, cookies, nuts, etc depending on their size. Bottoms sometimes received less attention than the tops. Floral decorations are transfer. No chips or cracks - the rare, occasional tiny dot in the porcelain occurred during the production process.Do not put in the microwave or dishwasher. Wash in warm water, no abrasives.There are only a few other similar pieces in our store.**** About the provenance of this item ****This item is part of a group of hand made textiles, hand carved wood, hand blown glass, and hand made ceramics that was acquired about 23 years ago from Romania (most from the Transylvania region) for a store our family operated in Ohio. Eventually, the store closed, and all remaining merchandise ended up boxed up in storage in a relative's climate controlled warehouse, until our eBay store received them just recently. While we may have more than just one piece of a certain style, for the most part: 1. they will be only a few at best; 2. each of them will be unique; 3. once they are gone they cannot be replenished.
