Description: Pair of two duck decoys with cork bodies and wood heads. These were made by Oscar Quam, who made many cork ducks here in Minnesota. Some people collect his work. One of the decoys is signed on the bottom by the previous owner. My husband and I knew Mr. Dahlstrom and his family for many years, and we acquired these when we bought the family cabin. These were used while hunting, and remain as evidence of folk art. We have not tried to clean these or change them in any way; they are as Mr. Dahlstrom left them. 1. This one has a carved pine head with what looks like glass eyes. The body measures approximately 12 x 6.5 inches. The cork body has a bottom that is made of thin, flat wood. It has an "eye" that attaches a lead weight via a medium-sized string. Some cork is missing. There is some gray color on the side, near the bottom, and two white marks on the top of the body. The bottom is signed with the last name of "Dahlstrom." 2. This one has painted eyes. The body is cork, with a thin, rounded, piece of metal attached to the bottom. The body of this decoy is lumpier, as though the maker tried to get a realistic body type carved. It is approximately 12 x 4 inches. There are several white marks on the body that I did not try to remove. There is a gouge to the cork at the front of the decoy. I appreciate the kind e-Bayer who recognized these as Oscar Quam's work, and who took the time to educate me.
