Description: Vintage Enamel Porcelain Sign Trackless Trolley Bus Stop Boston Traffic Commission. Measures 18” x 24” and weighs almost 8 pounds. Made for the Boston Elevated Railway or MTA by the Boston Traffic Commission, it dates from the 1940's era. The name Boston Traffic Commission was used 1929 until around 1960's. The fact that this is genuine enamel porcelain on steel dates this to pre-1950 I would be near certain. Sign has several scrapes as shown in the photos, please check the 5 pics. The Boston Elevated Railway began replacing streetcars with trackless trolleys in 1936 on the line from Harvard Square to Lechmere Station. In 1947, the Metropolitan Transit Authority took over transit operation from the Boston Elevated Railway.
