Description: This is a J. Russell Green River Bullnose Butcher knife made sometime between 1830-1870. The Green River Works in Connecticut was founded in 1832, and the knives became the most popular among the western indians and frontiersmen, leading to the expression "Give it to 'em up the Green River". This knife is very old and has clearly been used over a period of well over 100 years. Has a really beautiful petina. Stamped "J. Russell & Co Green River Works" on the blade. 5 steel pins. This is a very rare piece. A sticker has been left on the blade by the previous owner who was a collector of rare American made cutlery knives from the 19th century. 12” blade, 17.5” total length.
