Description: White Star Line RMS Olympic Historical Plaque IN FULL COLOR - w/ Actual Relic on an 8"x10" Display Plaque From the Workshop of Artist Craig Tinder - Appreciate the art, learn the story, feel the history. This is a unique opportunity to own an actual fragment of RMS Olympic’s Pitch Pine Deck that was acquired from an auction collection from the RMS Olympic in 2004. This 8” x 10” (20 x 25 cm) historical plaque combines this rare artifact, along with the story of the piece, and a beautifully detailed, engraved illustration created by artist Craig Tinder. The workhorse and eldest sister of the White Star Line’s luxury Olympic-class ocean liners, the RMS Olympic completed over 250 round trips across the Atlantic, traveling nearly 2 million miles while safely transporting over 400,000 passengers. At the outbreak of the Great War in 1914, she was converted into a troop transport. In 1918, bristling with light artillery guns and painted in a splinter camouflage, HMT Olympic would engage in combat by ramming and sinking an attacking German U-Boat. After an illustrious career, “Old Reliable” was scrapped in 1935 with the merging of the White Star and Cunard Lines. Upon the breakup of the ship in 1935, many of the fittings and fine furniture were auctioned off and can be found today in pubs, lounges, and hotels across the UK. In September 2004, another major auction occurred at Akzo Noble Paint Factory in Haltwhistle, England, which introduced a sizable cache of Olympic’s fittings to the public. The included relic is an original piece of pitch pine wood deck from RMS Olympic that was acquired during the 2004 Haltwhistle Paint Factory auction.
