Description: Rare 1st edition, 1st printing, Limited Edition. #255/500. Personalized note signed and dated from Victoria Fielden. The book is dedicated to Victoria and she owns the copyright. Excellent condition with dust jacket and slipcover. Dust jacket does have some fading and a small hole and cracks. See pictures. Faulkner composed the story. He gifted the story and inscribed it as such: “for his dear friend / Victoria / on her eighth birthday / Bill he made / this Book.” Victoria “Cho-Cho” Franklin was the daughter of Estelle Oldham, Faulkner's childhood sweetheart whom he would later marry. Oddly, Faulkner also gifted the story to a very sick little girl named Margaret Brown. The Browns read “The Wishing Tree” to Margaret the last six months of her life. It has also been said that the story was gifted to two other children. Eventually, perhaps when the Browns attempted to have the book printed, the issue of who owned the copyright arose. It was not until 1964, two years after Faulkner's death, that the copyright was acknowledged to be owned by Victoria F. Fielden, the granddaughter of Victoria Franklin.
