Description: I'm currently listing a large number of playbills from out-of-town tryouts prior to the Broadway runs. Many are from early performances when revisions were common and include song titles that were cut before opening in New York (see cut songs below) ....... This is a rare broadside (single page playbill) from the Pre-Broadway tryout of the GORDON JENKINS and TOM ADAIR musical revue "ALONG FIFTH AVENUE" at the Forrest Theatre in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. (The production would open January 13th, 1949 at the Broadhurst Theatre in New York City and run for 180 performances.) ..... The musical starred NANCY WALKER and WILLIE HOWARD (who would be replaced by JACKIE GLEASON after collapsing in Philadelphia) and featured HANK LADD, CAROL BRUCE, DONALD RICHARDS, VIOLA ESSEN, JOHNNY COY, VIRGINIA GORSKI, JOYCE MATTHEWS, DICK BERNIE, LOUISE KIRTLAND, GEORGE S. IRVING, JUDYTH BURROUGHS, ZACHARY SOLOV, LEE KRIEGER and WALLACE SEIBERT ..... DETAILS: The single page, two-sided playbill measures 5 1/2" X 8 1/2" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes and list of musical numbers, but no cast photos or bios ..... CUT SONGS: The list of musical numbers includes "Creme de la Creme" and "If" which were cut out-of-town ..... CONDITION: With the exception of a fold across the middle, this rare playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
