Description: WOW 1988 # 999 ALLEN CT INDIANA OLD ORDER AMISH HORSE DRAWN BUGGY LICENSE PLATE Special repeating numbers, 888 and in the year 1988!! I've been going through my collection as you know and came across this unique plate. This plate is new but was issued to be used on a Horse Drawn Buggy by the Old Order Amish community. Indiana is the only state that requires actual license plates on the buggies and are county issued. They obviously are used for identification in case of a MVA, but also are charged fees which go towards road repairs. I was told the Amish are charged one fee for the first plate and a lower fee for subsequent plates in consideration that they usually have one team of horses for one buggy at a time. I was also told the Amish did not care what numbers they receive but would absolutely not accept the number 666 because of Biblical/theological beliefs.I collected these in the Hoosier state years ago when I was in college.
