Description: Original WW1 AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN military map of BULGARIA entitled "SUMEN" (SHUMEN, SUMLA). Covers an area of Bulgaria extending from SHUMEN to the Gulf of BURGAS on the Black Sea. Produced in 1915 by the Austro-Hungarian "K.u.k. Militargeographisches Institut", and seemingly captured during the War before being transferred to the British War Office's 'Geographical Section General Staff' Map Room in July 1919. Bears subsequent official archive stamps from the War Office and the Directorate of Military Survey, but the map was eventually superseded and donated to Edinburgh University, who recently sold it off as part of a much wider collection.
