Description: Up for sale are 4 comics associated with the X-Men Universe, including X-Men (1991) Issue #1 (the Magneto cover), Longshot (1985) Issue #2, Archangel (1991) Issue #1, and Excalibur (1987) Issue #34. The X-Men are a team of fictional mutant superheroes appearing in comics published by Marvel Comics. Created by artist/co-writer Jack Kirby and writer Stan Lee, the characters first appeared in The X-Men #1 (1963) and formed one of the most recognizable and successful franchises of Marvel Comics, appearing in numerous books, television shows, films, and video games. Uncanny X-Men is the longest running X-Men title that began in 1963. In 1991, Marvel decided to break up the X-Men teams and launch a new series titled just X-Men. With the return of Xavier and the original X-Men to the team, the roster was split into two strike forces: Cyclops's "Blue Team" (chronicled in X-Men) and Storm's "Gold Team" (in The Uncanny X-Men). The first issues of the second X-Men series were written by Chris Claremont and drawn and co-plotted by Jim Lee. Longshot is a superhero appearing in comics published by Marvel Comics, most commonly in association with the X-Men. Created by writer Ann Nocenti and artist Art Adams, he first appeared in Longshot #1 (1985), the first issue of a six-issue miniseries that represents the first major work of both Nocenti and Adams. Longshot is an amnesiac fugitive from another dimension who discovers that he has favorable probability outcomes, or "good luck," that protect him when his motives are pure. He was raised to be a slave, but led a rebellion on his dystopian world against his former master and enemy, Mojo. He later joins the X-Men. Warren Kenneth Worthington III, originally known as Angel and later as Archangel, is a superhero appearing in comics published by Marvel Comics and is a founding member of the X-Men. Created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, he first appeared in The X-Men #1 (1963). Angel is a mutant who originally possesses a pair of large feathered wings extending from his back, enabling him to fly. In the late 1980s, the character was changed into the darker "Archangel" persona. While Angel's wings were originally feathered, his transition to Archangel resulted in metallic wings and newfound powers. As one of the original X-Men, Archangel has had a frequent presence in X-Men-related comic books throughout the years and also appeared occasionally in X-Men animated series and video games. Ben Foster played the role of Angel in the 2006 film X-Men: The Last Stand and Ben Hardy portrayed a younger version in the 2016 film X-Men: Apocalypse. Excalibur is a superhero team which is an offshoot of the X-Men, usually based in the United Kingdom. Conceived by writer Chris Claremont and artist/co-writer Alan Davis, they first appeared in Excalibur Special Edition #1 (1987). The first Excalibur consisted of the British superhero, Captain Britain, his future wife Meggan, and three former members of the X-Men (Nightcrawler, Shadowcat, and Phoenix (Rachel Summers)). Originally, the series involved cross-dimensional travel that incorporated as many elements of Captain Britain's mythos as it did the X-Men's. As stated above, this listing includes X-Men (1991) Issue #1 (the Magneto cover), Longshot (1985) Issue #2, Archangel (1991) Issue #1, and Excalibur (1987) Issue #34. Highlights include: X-Men (1991) Issue #1, published October 1991, is the (Colossus, Gambit, Rogue cover) cover edition. This 48-page giant sized issue is written by Chris Claremont, with art and a great cover by superstar artist Jim Lee. Magneto forms the Acolytes and proclaims Asteroid M a haven for mutants everywhere; But the rest of the world doesn't see it that way. Nick Fury cameo. Plus, a 2-page pin-up: gallery of X-Men villains and a X-Men Sketchbook by Jim Lee. Longshot (1985) Issue #2, published October 1985, was written by Ann Nocenti, with art by Arthur Adams, Whilce Portacio, and Scott Williams, and a cover by Art Adams. A director is impressed with Longshot's physical acrobatics and offers him a job as a stunt man. Longshot is attacked by hunters from his home world and is rescued by Magog who is beginning to grow and transform into a more demonic looking creature. During filming, Longshot's luck powers desert him as the making of money is not considered a worthy goal and he is cut down by lasers. The director claims that he is going to rush Longshot to the hospital but ends up dumping him in a river and leaving him to die. Archangel (1996) Issue #1, published February 1996, was written by Peter Milligan, with art by Leonardo Manco, and a cover by Steve Lightle. Warren Worthington III (Archangel) is an X-Man, a hero and philanthropist. He was almost killed and was reborn thanks to the villain Apocalypse. Now, it looks like he’s being possessed by a mutant while his wings begin to grow back and his metallic wings begin to fall off. Was this part of Apocalypse's plans? Finally, Excalibur (1988) Issue #34, published February 1991, was written by Chris Claremont, with art by Ron Wagner, and a cover by Steve Lightle. Excalibur finally reunites only to come face-to-face with Mesmero. I would place all of these issues in the Very Fine to Near Mint range for condition.Grading is subjective, and only my opinion.
