Description: Extra large example taken from a museum deacquisition. A fabulous old Eskimo hide Umiak with a finely made wooden framework inside and a male hunter with a cloth face sealskin shroud around the boat's opening and seal skin gauntlets as he holds his long ore. The oar has organic details as well as on the underside of the Kayak. Sinew sewn and other sinew rigging is attached as shown. Looks to be c.1900 or earlier. Stitched with sinew and having a fine old patina. AS NICE AS WE'VE SEEN we've seen in a long long while. Nice large scale that will stand out in your advanced to investment grade collection. There are often newer ones that copy this style of model but this one is a good early one. An authentic and classic work of early native Alaskan art and it has NO RESERVE !
