Description: This is an outstanding antique string of Yemeni Yusr prayer beads. The black coral beads are decorated with inlaid hammered silver and brass nails, a method usually seen in Istanbul in the 19th century. The central bead is ridged into 14 segments which have fine twisted wire along the channels. Between the round coral beads are round spacer beads made from a low grade silver and of four different patterns. There are also elongated and spherical smooth black coral beads and two African amber reddish-color oval beads. The color of the coral beads is black but with some coffee colors on the surface, a sign of wear and age (new beads are shiny black). The black coral beads include one 25mm ridged center bead, four 25mm smooth with inlay beads, ten 18mm smooth with wire and inlay beads, six 8mm oval beads, and eight 8mm round beads. The 34 silver beads range from 13mm to 5mm. The necklace is 27" long; there is no clasp but it easily slips over the head. It weighs 120.2 grams. One 18mm beads has a line of the twisted silver wire missing. There is a little verdigris on the beads with twisted wire and granulation.
