Chimurenga is a word in the Shona language meaning "revolutionary struggle" or uprising. It typically is a reference to the Zimbabwean War of Independence. Prior to 1960's the term referred to the Ndebele and Shona insurrections against the administration of the British South Africa Company during the 1890s (the Second Matabele War, or First Chimurenga).
